Charity & Sponsorship

Fundraising

Each year at Lanes Vets we raise money for 2 charities and this year as a practice we have chosen St. Johns Hospice and Salve International, two charities that are very important to many of our staff and clients.

We have done various fundraisers throughout the year including bake sales, book sales, walking an ‘Almost Marathon’, and a Bingo night. We aim to raise £1000 for each charity but this year we have already exceeded our target thanks to the generosity our of clients! If you would like to donate to either of these charities please click on the link below.

Current Charities

The final balance raised by Lanes Vets will be split equally between the two charities.

St. Johns Hospice

St Johns Hospice provides care, compassion and support for patients with life limiting
illnesses and their loved ones throughout North Lancashire, South Lakes and parts of North Yorkshire.

At the inpatient unit there is a team of more than 60 nurses whilst hospice at Home has a team of 31 Nurses and Health Care Assistants. They cover both day and night services including a respite service. Our Hospice at Home staff are committed to providing a high standard of palliative care in the community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year. We help up to 200 people in their own homes at any one time.

Family Support – We believe that providing ongoing care and support during and after the death of a loved one is vital this is done through social workers, our spiritual care team and our bereavement team. In 2022 we opened our Forget Me Not Centre, a family and child bereavement centre, funded by a generous private donation. The centre is home to therapeutic support for children and young people and their families who have lost parents and close relatives. St. Johns Hospice’s services are free for patients and always will be… But it costs over £5.2 million per year to run. They have to raise £3.5 million every year through fundraising. THAT MEANS they MUST RAISE £12,000 EVERY DAY.

SALVE International

S.A.L.V.E. International is a Ugandan Charity that works in a variety of ways to reduce the number of children having to live on the streets of Uganda, which all have education at the heart of them.;

  • The Street Outreach Programme helps build strong trusting relationships with the children living on the streets.
  • Halfway Homes offer a place of love and learning for the children as they leave the streets to help them prepare to be resettled home with their relatives.
  • Home Tracing and family resettlement allows us to try to find the best solution to help children to permanently leave the streets and settle in a caring family home.
  • Drug Rehabilitation Programme supports children who are addicted to drugs to overcome their addiction, gain vital skills and become drug educators for their peers.
  • Our Family Skills and Business Empowerment programme helps families of resettled children start up their own businesses so that they can support their children and reduce the risk of them returning to the street due to poverty.
  • Our Research, Community Education and Partnership work helps to reduce the number of children who will come to the streets in the first place and challenges negative attitudes towards children on the streets.
  • Our Briquette Social Enterprise offers skills training for the young people undergoing rehabilitation at S.A.L.V.E. as well as generating a small income to support our work so that we can help more children leave the streets.
  • Our Permaculture programme teaches the children and young people who are staying at our land sustainable farming techniques as well as providing permaculture training for vulnerable rural families of street connected children.

Previous Charities

Kidney Research UK

Worldwide, around one in 10 people have chronic kidney disease, for which there is no cure. Here in the UK, 20 people develop kidney failure each day, and 30,000 are reliant on dialysis to stay alive.

Six people every week die while on the waiting list for a kidney transplant.

Over the past decade some progress has been made in treating kidney disease, but not nearly enough. However thanks to the generosity of our supporters, in the last year, we invested £6.46 million into research.

North West Air Ambulance

Our helicopters operate 365 days a year, with highly skilled specialist doctors and HEMS paramedics on board providing enhanced pre-hospital care and hospital transfers to patients across the entire North West each year – an area covering 5,500 square miles and over 8 million people.

Each year we must raise over £12 million to remain operational. We receive NO government or NHS funding – it’s only thanks to the generosity of people like you that we can continue flying to save lives.
